Good Samaritan Hospital: HVAC Upgrade

This project included the replacement of the air handler in the basement and a supply fan located on the second floor. New work included a raised platform on the roof for each of the air handlers and chillers, plus all the electrical sub-panels and disconnects serving the new equipment. All design and preparation of the construction documents for submittal and approval had to be finished and approved before the existing failing equipment became non-operational. Despite all of the new equipment being installed on the roof of the building where it would not be visible, one of the goals of the project was to provide a clean, linear layout of the air handler, units, chillers, piping / ducts, and supports so that the equipment would not only be easily accessible during maintenance, but also visually pleasing. Often, HVAC and electrical equipment is seen as a necessary evil that is not part of the design language of a building, but Iā€™m really pleased with how much effort went into ensuring that this project was both functional and as aesthetically pleasing.
