Twin Cities Community Hospital: Guarding Unit

The goal of this project was to design a guarding medical unit with a private entrance that provided access to the hospital without compromising the safety of both the patients and facility staff. This included access to the facility by pedestrians as well as loading and unloading of patients by vehicle. The guarding unit also included a 24/7 security desk with protective glass and a nurse station for patient monitoring. Additional safety considerations were included in the design. Steel plating inside the exterior walls to prevent tampering, security bars on all exterior windows, lavatory skirts, sharp container lock boxes, sprinkler head guards, etc. At the conclusion of the project, the result was a guarding unit that enabled the staff to provide uncompromising medical services to inmates without having to compromise their safety.
